Pre-Programming Telecom Technician (6 Month Contract)

Reporting to the Technical Support Manager, the Pre-Programming Telecom Technician works with our Operations Team to prepare phone equipment customized to customer’s telecommunications requirements prior to deployment. This entry level role is a great opportunity for an individual interested in Telecom with good knowledge of Information Technology and Networks.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Installation Activities:
    • Coordinating with warehouse staff to ensure necessary phone equipment is ordered and received based on established timelines
    • Coordinating with Project Installation Manager for customer details as it relates to voicemail options, call flow, and extension
    • Programming phone equipment according to customer details
    • Answering questions regarding programming details from Field Technicians during the installation phase
    • Prioritizing input tasks to ensure phone systems are prepared prior to onsite deployment
  • Service Calls
    • Responding to Tier 1 and 2 level support calls from customers within agreed Service Level Agreements
    • Resolving support tickets via different remote tools in a fast and professional manner by gathering customer’s information and determining the issue by evaluating and analyzing the symptoms 
    • Ensuring all support calls and activities are logged in the CRM system
  • Complete routine tasks to ensure upgrades and maintenance are completed
  • Occasionally involved in assisting with post-installation issues, working with multiple internal departments (sales, field technicians, accounting, provisioning) to ensure resolution
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year relevant (IT, Telecom) experience, preferably in a professional environment
  • College diploma in related discipline
  • Professional and able to work efficiently and proactively to meet deadlines
  • Capable of and comfortable working independently
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written
  • Experience with networks, VPNs, SIP Trunking, Switches & Routers, Firewalls and LANs is an asset
  • Experience with VoIP,  traditional voice, and products from manufacturers like Avaya (IP Office), Nortel, Norstar, and NEC (SV8100, SL1100) is an asset
